A Vehicle Identification Number, commonly abbreviated to VIN, is a unique serial number used by the automotive industry to identify individual motor vehicles. VIN number is the 17-character identifier and does not contain the letters I (i), O (o), and Q (q) (to avoid confusion with numerals 1 and 0). No two vehicles have the same VIN, so it serves as your car’s fingerprint– this allows for all reports of accidents, title problems, insurance incidents, and more to be tracked through each vehicle’s VIN.
You can find your VIN on the vehicle title, the vehicle registration, and the insurance policy. If these papers would not be available, the VIN can also be found inside the vehicle itself. It can be seen on the dashboard on the driver's side and on the driver's side door.
